Trẻ sinh non có nguy cơ bị rối loạn nuốt từ 40 - 70% do sự phát triển chưa hoàn chỉnh của hệ thần kinh và cấu trúc giải phẫu vùng miệng chịu những tác động không sinh lý từ môi trường bên ngoài như đặt ống nội khí quản, thở máy áp lực dương, ăn qua sonde dạ dày, băng dính gây hạn chế vận động miệng. Hậu quả làm trẻ nằm viện kéo dài, nguy cơ hít sặc và viêm phổi. Kỹ thuật vận động miệng PIOMI (premature infant oral motor intervention) là kỹ thuật can thiệp chuyên biệt cho trẻ sinh non để phát triển các kỹ năng bú - nuốt.
Đối tượng và phương pháp nghiên cứu: Nghiên cứu tiến cứu được tiến hành trên 60 trẻ sinh non có khó khăn bú nuốt và được đánh giá trước và sau can thiệp, không có nhóm chứng.
Mục tiêu: Đánh giá hiệu can thiệp vận động miệng PIOMI cải thiện khả năng bú - nuốt ở trẻ sinh non.
Kết quả: Trung bình tuổi thai hiệu chỉnh lúc trẻ can thiệp PIOMI là 34,1 2,1 tuần. Sau can thiệp trung bình khoảng 5 ngày trẻ có thể ăn miệng hoàn toàn và trẻ tăng cân có ý nghĩa thống kê.
Kết luận: PIOMI là một biện pháp can thiệp hiệu quả rối loạn nuốt cho trẻ sinh non
