Abstract
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a viral infectious disease caused by a newly discovered
coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2). After the outbreak of
2019 novel coronavirus infection in China, COVID-19 has spread rapidly across the globe, including
Vietnam. COVID-19 is a new emerging disease with great challenge on control, diagnosis and
management, especially in children. This review aims to verify the main epidemiologic, clinical,
diagnostic and therpeutic aspects of COVID-19 in children. Based on published medical literatures,
some international guidelines, and expert’s consensus. The new pandemic COVID-19 has aff ected
all children, including neonates, who comprise of approximately 2% of total confi rmed cases. Most
children are asymptomatic or have mild disease, only under 2% have severe diseases requiring
intensive care and much lower mortality compared to adults for yet unknown reasons. Suspect case
is a child with respiratory signs or symptoms and one any epidemiological criteria. Confi rmed case
is a child with RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 positive, irrespective clinical signs or symptoms. Treatment of
COVID-19 in children mostly isolation, supportive therapy. The specifi c therapy should be assessed
based on illness severity, age, and the presence of risk factors.
