Abstract

Objectives: Remark some clinical, paraclinical characteristics and results of treatment of patients with scrub typus.

Subjects and methods: A retrospective study and description of 52 inpatients with scrub typhus treated at the Muongkhuong General Hospital from June 2021 to August 2024.

Results: The male-to-female ratio was 1.7:1, with a mean age of 7.43 ± 3.78 years. Escha were observed at multiple sites, most commonly in the groin and genital areas. Other symptoms were relatively uncommon and nonspecifc, including cough (38.5%), abdominal pain (28.9%), nausea/vomiting (15.4%), and rash (13.5%). Laboratory fndings revealed thrombocytopenia (104 G/L), elevated liver enzymes (GOT: 125 U/L, GPT: 66.5 U/L), increased CRP levels, hypoalbuminemia, leukocyte abnormalities, pleural efusion (11.5%), and ascites (13.4%). Females patients have lower platelet counts and higher liver enzyme levels compared to males; however, but treatment outcomes were favorable for both sexes, with no signifcant diferences observed. Treatment with doxycycline resulted in fever resolution within 2.85 ± 1.27 days and an average hospital stay of 6.38 ± 2.6 days.
